Dear family, friends and supporters

In 2008, the Gahler for Sheriff Campaign was started as a true grass roots effort. Since joining this race, I am truly honored and humbled to have so many of you step forward to support me and my effort to become Harford County’s next Sheriff.

Thanks to our ever growing circle of supporters, the past year and half have allowed the campaign to host many very successful fundraisers and have positioned the Gahler for Sheriff Campaign as the leading campaign for the Office of Sheriff.

As a long time Harford County resident, as a husband, and as the father of two daughters in the public school system, I have a truly vested interest in improving public safety for each and every Harford County family. As a graduate of North Harford High School, Harford Community College, the Johns Hopkins University, and as a 26-year veteran of the Maryland State Police, I have the education, training, experience and expertise to accomplish the goals of reducing crime and improving public safety in Harford County.

As Harford County’s Sheriff, I will . . . 

• Put the safety of your family, our communities and our schools first;
• Ensure the entire Office works to support my main priority - Police Patrol!
• Reduce the current number of specialized units that have taken deputies off our streets and away from patrolling our neighborhoods;
• Launch proven community based crime fighting strategies that WILL make Harford County safer from petty and violent career criminals;
• Provide increased staffing levels in the Detention Center to meet the minimum national standards for jail facilities, to accommodate the demands of the current jail expansion and to ensure officer safety;
• Ensure traffic enforcement is conducted throughout the county, not only on major roadways, but in your community;
• Give supervisors and commanders the power to make decisions and support them;
• Restore integrity and fairness within the ranks of the Sheriff’s Office;
• Practice true fiscal responsibility with tax payer dollars;
• Return the Sheriff’s Office to the proactive and responsive law enforcement organization it once was.

In order to accomplish these goals and bring the changes that are required from your police department to ensure improved public safety, I am asking for your vote on Primary Day, Tuesday, September 14, 2010 and again on the General Election Day, Tuesday, November 2, 2010.
